Naveen Patnaik to contest from Kantabanji and Hinjili in the upcoming Assembly elections. The BJD party has released a list of 9 candidates, including 6 women and 4 turncoats, for various assembly segments in Odisha.
The turncoats who have been nominated by Patnaik for the Lok Sabha elections are Surendra Singh Bhoi (Bolangir), Parineeta Mishra (Bargarh), Bhrugu Baxipatra (Berhampur), Manmath Routray (Bhubaneswar), Ansuman Mohanty (Kendrapara), Pradeep Majhi (Nabarangpur) and Dhanurjay Sidhu (Keonjhar).
Three-time Congress MLA and former minister Surendra Singh Bhoi resigned from the primary membership of the party after 38 years and joined the ruling BJD on Friday. Two BJP leaders - Nilgiri MLA Sukant Nayak and the party's Cuttack district president Prakash Chandra Behera - also resigned from their party and are likely to join the BJD.
The BJP announced 18 Lok Sabha candidates for Odisha, including two from royal families, five tribal members, and two Dalits, with four women among them. The party retained Sangeeta Kumar Singh Deo, a member of the Patnagarh royal family, as the Bolangir MP. Malavika Keshari Deo, also from a royal family, is fielded for Kalahandi.
A substantial part of the cash worth Rs. 329 crore, was unearthed and seized from obscure and dilapidated buildings, hidden chambers and hidden safe-house camouflaged as an unoccupied residence in Sudapada and Titlagarh in Bolangir District and Khetrajrajpur in Sambalpur District in Odisha, the department said.
The Income Tax department conducted raids on an Odisha-based distillery group, recovering over Rs 220 crore in cash. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the money looted from the public will have to be returned. The raids, linked to tax evasion, found 156 bags of cash, totaling Rs 220 crore, in places associated with the distillery group.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning of light to moderate rain with thundershowers and lightning in 18 districts of Odisha, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Friday.
